About the class

The Zita Elze Academy is Britain’s first and only flower school to teach design following emotions rather than rules.

Award-winning designer, Zita Elze, offers a wide range of courses for professionals and amateurs, sharing her creativity, originality and inspiration for which she has become celebrated. In addition to offering the essentials of floral design from beginner level to advanced, she reveals the new floral techniques synonymous with her ethereal style. 

Casting aside the rules of traditional floristry, the academy features monthly, weekly and daily courses, including Zita’s signature Floral Embroidery technique, an in-depth study of Wedding Design, and her innovative Concept and Design class where Zita teaches her ground-breaking approach that will expose your hidden creative depths. 

The four-week course incorporates these programmes plus extensive instruction in everything from the history of design to running a shop, and at the end students’ work is captured in a professional photographic portfolio.  The course imparts the confidence to students to pursue their own style, providing a solid basis for a successful future.

Taking place in a friendly, intimate environment, seasonal one-day classes offer a variety of exquisite designs created by unlimited channeling  of emotions, using flowers chosen from Zita’s enchanting shop.

Refreshments and all materials are provided together with the flowers of your choice from our shop, Zita Elze Flowers.  Your arrangements are to take home, along with the knowledge of how to use floral design to capture the important emotions of life and the ambience of those special occasions.

An exciting range of Garden Design classes on select Saturdays are instructed by Laura de Beden, Doctor in Humanities (Bocconi University, Milan); Chartered Landscape and Garden Architect (University of Central England); fully accredited member of the Landscape Institute.

Laura de Beden is a designer and an academic.  She runs her own practice designing town and country gardens and large estates. She has taught at Kingston University’s School of Architecture and Landscape as a senior lecturer for years. She was also appointed course leader in Garden Design. Now she lectures internationally, and for the National Trust, NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies) and other institutions in the UK and overseas. Her lectures are presented with gusto and a characteristically enthusiastic approach to the subject. She also writes on landscape issues and has an extensive knowledge of plants.

GARDEN DESIGN WORKSHOPS:
Each workshop will have introductory lectures to the subject, illustrated with inspiring beautiful images. The second part will be dedicated to students' experimentation. Students should bring to the workshop images and a plan drawn to scale (1:50 or 1:100) of the area you wish to work upon, as well as notepad, a few sheets of A4 tracing paper, pen and B + 2B pencils and sharpener.
Once you have enrolled, please email Laura one image of the area you wish to work on and one specific question regarding it.  Also contact Laura if you have any query regarding the tutoring and subject of the workshop.

On-site accommodation is now available at the Academy.
Delightfully decorated in the Zita Elze style, single and double rooms are to let for students, or indeed anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the world of Zita Elze. Shared bathroom, fully fitted kitchen, laundry facilities and a small terrasse for outdoor dining. A few minutes walk from Kew underground station. Prices upon request.
 

Gift vouchers, one-to-one or group classes, “hen days,” and interpreters for foreign students are upon request.
